Little Green Steps project

John McMahon Child Care Centre and Leichhardt Children’s Centre have been selected to participate in the Little Green Steps project. Little Green Steps aims to create sustainable children’s centres for the delivery of quality sustainability education, targeted to young children.

Little Green Steps takes a practical approach to environmental education for the under fives. Children will learn through hands-on education, observation and participation. The project will also involve conducting environmental audits, developing environmental management plans for the centres, professional development for early childhood professionals and the creation of environmental education resource kits.

Little Green Steps was originally developed by Wyong and Gosford Councils in 2004. Canterbury, Hurstville, Leichhardt, Waverley and Woollahra Councils partnered to successfully gain funding from the NSW Government’s Environmental Trust to run this project in Sydney.

If you have any questions about the program or would like to be involved in any way, please contact the Little Green Steps Project Officer by phone 9789 9567 or e-mail: johnw@canterbury.nsw.gov.au
