Public Notice

Proposed Closure of Bay Street, Balmain and inclusion of this area into Mort Bay Park

In 2004 Council adopted the Mort Bay Park Plan of Management.  One of the proposals in the plan was for the closure of Bay Street at Short Street and the extension of the small pocket park at this location into Mort Bay Park.

Council has allocated funding in the current 2011-2012 budget for these works and Council is now publicly exhibiting the plans and seeking comments and written submissions from the community.

Bay Run Lighting Installation

Council would like to notify the community of scheduled works for the installation of LED Solar Lighting on The Bay Run (from Leichhardt Playground - Glover Street, Lilyfield). pdf icon Bay Run Lighting Installation (13.86kB)

Works are scheduled to commence on 21 November 2011 and will take approximately 1 weeks to complete.

Outdoor Fitness Station at Leichhardt Park - Saturday, 12 February 2011
A public consultation event was held to discuss the development of an outdoor fitness station at Leichhardt Park.The meeting was held adjacent to the Leichhardt Park Regional Playground and Bay Run at Leichhardt Park.

Discussions focused on the background to the project, a recommended site location for the Fitness Station (by Council Officers) and on equipment selection and provision. This facility is being developed with a special emphasis on older adults' recreational needs. A time frame for construction is still to be advised.

Community Gardens Workshop–Development of a Community Garden Policy - Monday 24 January 2011 

      Key themes for discussion included:  

  • the benefits of community gardens
  • approaches to community garden establishment and management
  • the role of community groups in community gardens
  • the role of local government in community gardens
  • development of a draft community garden policy by Leichhardt Council and the community consultation framework associated with this policy
  • community issues associated with community gardens
  • scope for new community gardens in the Leichhardt local government area.

Speakers from existing community gardens shared their knowledge, experiences and passion for community gardens. Guest facilitators for the workshop were Russ Grayson and Fiona Campbell of the Australian City Farms and Community Gardens Network (ACFCGN).

Playing Pitch Partnership Forums
All sports clubs and associations who utilise recreational facilities in the Leichhardt Municipality are invited to attend these forums to discuss a range of relevant sports and recreation issues.
There are common recreation issues which are discussed which affect a range of sports clubs, eg potential improvements to ground facilities such as floodlighting, shared ground usage, identifying and applying for external funding opportunities, future of Callan Park grounds etc.
