Reusing and SecondHand Saturday

Reusing products is better than recycling. Recycling still requires the use of precious resources like water and energy for remanufacturing. Reusing gives a product a longer life, saves resources and can be of value to someone else, once it is no longer of use for its original owner.

Leichhardt, Annandale – Saturday 28 April

Leichhardt Council runs SecondHand Saturday (SHS) - a giant neighbourhood garage sale held in individual households. SHS enables residents to participate in a program that promotes the value of resource conservation and reduced waste to landfill, whilst making a dollar or two and meeting their neighbours!

Residents will receive an information brochure in their letterbox approximately 2-3 weeks before the event letting them know how to Register for SHS and how it works. Participating households also receive an A3 poster to place on their letterboxes so shoppers know they are having a sale! Registered households (ie those holding a sale on the day) will be advertised in the Inner West Courier Thursday issue and on Council's website. Watch out for the SecondHand Saturday adds in The Courier a few weeks prior to the first event.

Street lists will be available on Council's website in the week of the SHS sale, once all registered addresses have been received. Street lists will also be advertised in the Inner West Courier Thursday issue in the week of the SHS.
