Speed Management
Speeding has consistently been a contributing factor in most fatal and injury crashes. For this reason, in November 1999, Leichhardt Council developed a local Speed Management Strategy, together with the RTA and Police.
This strategy involves four key elements:
- Changes to the road environment (engineering solutions);
- Reducing speed limits;
- Conducting information campaigns to raise community awareness about the dangers of driving too fast for the conditions or above the speed limit; and
- Working with Police to enforce speed limits.
