Sustainable Water and Risk Management Development Control Plan

Amendment to Leichhardt Development Control Plan 2000 - Sustainable Water and Risk Management

Pursuant to Clause 21 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000, Council has amended Leichhardt Development Control Plan 2000 to provide development controls specific to Sustainable Water and Risk Management. This amendment to the DCP took effect on Tuesday 11 August 2009.

The DCP will form part of the Development Control Plan (DCP) 2000.

Background

Council at its meeting on 10 March 2009 resolved to publicly exhibit its draft Sustainable Water and Risk Management DCP.

The aim of the draft Sustainable Water and Risk Management DCP is to set out Council's controls for sustainable water and (flood or inundation) risk management in Leichhardt. This DCP will, on adoption, form part of the Leichhardt Town Plan - the combined LEP 2000 and DCP.

These controls seek to ensure that development:

  • integrates water management appropriate to the site and its surroundings
  • provides for sustainable management and use of water
  • allows for the management and conservation of natural and built waterways and the natural assets in the catchments
  • considers and manages flooding and inundation risks
